Dr. Laima Andrikiene has been a member of Lithuanian Popular Movement Sajudis and elected to the Parliament in 1990 as a candidate of Sajudis as well as of Lithuanian Union of Political Prisoners and
Deportees.
Dr. Laima Andrikiene has been one of the founding members of Lithuania's Homeland Union (Conservative Party) and has been its member from 1993 till 1998.
During 1993-1998 she has been a member of the Executive Committee, Chairman of the Committee on International
Relations.
During 1995-1998 Dr. Andrikiene was a Chairman of the European Committee of the Party, a body responsible for formulating and implementing her Party's policy on Lithuania's integration into the European
Union.
From January 1999 L.Andrikiene is non-partisan, independent member of
Parliament.
L.Andrikiene has signed the Founding Declaration of the Homeland People's Party on October 23, 1999 and has become a member of the Initiative group of this new moderate rightist party of
Lithuania.
Dr. Andrikiene has participated in international conferences and has presented a number of papers on issues of national defence and security, foreign policy, economic reform, privatisation, and human rights. She has also published about 50 articles on economics, agricultural economics and
politics.
In 1994 Dr. Andrikiene participated in the United States Information Agency (USIA) program on security and defence issues (multiregional approach) in Washington,
D.C.
From January until May 1996 Dr. Andrikiene was on a Pew Fellowship at School of Foreign Service, Georgetown University, Washington,
D.C.
Dr. Andrikiene was born in 1958 in the town of Druskininkai, Lithuania. She is married and has a son Sarunas who is 16 years
old.
